Well tonight was a much anticipated evening of great music. The Tennessee Three were in town performing live at the Oil City Roadhouse here in Edmonton. For those of you who don't know who the Tennessee Three are, they were the backing band for the Legendary Johnny Cash, where they toured & recorded with Johnny for over 40 years. The band consists of Bob Wootton (Guitar & Lead Vocals) & WS Holland (Drums), both original band members. Also accompanying the band were Vicky Wootton (Vocals & Rhythm Guitar), Scarlett Wootton (Guitar & Vocals) & Lisa Horngren (Upright Base).
This night started earlier than usual as the bar opened up at around 6:00 pm. When I got there at around 7:15 pm the bar already had a lot of people waiting for the Tennessee Three to take the stage. Thankfully there was already another band on stage entertaining the crowd. This evenings crowd was in general a much older crowd but still lively as there were a few couples taking to the dance floor for a quick 2-step before the main act showed up.
Around 8:15 or so is when the Tennessee Three took the stage to a very warm welcome. For the next hour & a half or so (maybe longer, I lost track) the band was entertaining the crowd with hit after hit of old Johnny Cash tunes. As the night progressed more and more people took to the dance floor either to get closer to the stage or to get in a 2-step to classics like Ring of Fire, I walk the Line. By the time the band finished the crowd had been fully entertained and everything I could tell had enjoyed the music very much. Afterwards the show Bob and WS moved the back of the bar where there was a table that they had merchandise and they signed autographs.
The rest of the evening went very well, as a number of the crowd members for the concert went home well entertained many more people were in line outside to get into the bar for a night of good music, drink and dancing.
The only unfortunate thing for me was I had to leave early at around 11:00 pm. Overall a good evening, I enjoyed myself and I think most everyone else did too.
